CCBC Essex Drops Both Games in Doubleheader Against Frederick
FREDERICK, MD – A seven-run fourth inning proved to be the difference as Frederick Community College defeated CCBC Essex 12-5 on Thursday. The loss capped off a tough day for the Knights, who dropped both games of the doubleheader and now stand at 6-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Early Lead Slips Away
CCBC Essex struck first in the top of the second inning when Sophomore Cameron Brewer (York, PA) launched a two-run homer to left field, putting the Knights up 2-0.
Frederick quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs behind a Josh Erd RBI single, a Cole Swinimer two-run triple, and an Andrew Varga RBI single to take a 4-2 lead.
Frederick's Big Fourth Inning
The Cougars broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, plating seven runs on four hits.
- Varga and Jacob Downey each had RBI singles.
- Shawn Karpaitis added a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.
- An error led to another Cougar run.
- Casey Westerberg doubled, scoring one.
- Matthew Kim capped off the rally with a two-run triple.
By the end of the inning, Frederick led 11-2 and never looked back.
