CCBC Essex Defeats CCBC Dundalk Behind Strong Performance from Yadier Henriquez Lopez, Snaps Losing Streak in Game 1
DUNDALK, MD – CCBC Essex (8-7, 5-4 Region 20) snapped its three-game losing streak behind a dominant pitching performance from Freshman Yadier Henriquez Lopez (Harrisburg, PA / Central Dauphin East), securing a 5-3 victory over CCBC Dundalk in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader.
Henriquez Lopez Dominates on the Mound
- Henriquez Lopez (3-0) struck out 10 batters over five innings, allowing four hits and three runs, while walking three.
Early Runs Give Essex the Edge
- CCBC Essex struck first in the second inning:
- Sophomore Billy Hartman (Reisterstown, MD / Franklin HS) delivered an RBI single to right field.
- Sophomore Hiyu Ota (Sammu Chiba, Japan) executed a safety squeeze, plating another run for a 2-0 lead.
- Dundalk answered in the bottom of the second:
- Wright homered to left field on an 0-2 count, cutting the lead to 2-1.
- Essex extended the lead in the third:
- Freshman Lorenzo Rodriguez Pozo (Orlando, FL) ripped an RBI single down the right-field line.
- Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring another run despite flying into a double play.
Shutdown Relief Preserves the Win
- Dundalk's Neff took the loss, pitching six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking two.
- Sophomores Yariel Lopez (Cidra, PR) and Mitchell Hineline (Harrisburg, PA) came on in relief for Essex and shut down Dundalk over the final two innings.
