CCBC Essex Defeats Cecil College Seahawks In Pitcher's Duel
Rosedale, MD – Both teams were strong on the bump on Sunday, but CCBC Essex defeated Cecil College 2-1. Freshman Casey Parsons (1-3) earned his first college win as a complete game starter for CCBC Essex.
CCBC Essex opened the scoring in the bottom of the third thanks to two singles. CCBC Essex first got on the board when Sophomore Eduardo Zayas singled, scoring one run.
Parsons started on the mound for CCBC Essex. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. John Smith, his high school teammate at Parkside, started on the mound for Cecil College. Smith allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out three and walking six.
Gabriel Vargas (Cidra, PR / Centennial, TN), Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL / Manatee), Zayas, Ethan Holland (Salisbury, MD / Parkside), and Diego Garcia each collected one hit for CCBC Essex. Cook and Zayas were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for CCBC Essex.
Connor Bailey, Casey Parsons, Ethan Holland, John Smith, and former Knight now at UMBC Zach Robinson were all high school teammates on Parkside High School's 2023 State Championship Team.
Couper Stala and Ben Campbell each collected one hit for Cecil College Seahawks. Brendan Aiken led the team with one run batted in.
