Game Goes Down To The Wire As CCBC Essex Falls To Anne Arundel On Final Play
Arnold, MD — A walk-off walk handed CCBC Essex a tough 5-4 loss to Anne Arundel on Sunday afternoon at Anne Arundel Community College. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh when Russell Turner drew a bases-loaded walk to end the contest.
Anne Arundel struck first in the second inning on a groundout by JC Wilson that brought in a run. The Knights answered in the top of the third as sophomore Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY / Christ the King) drove in the tying run with a lineout.
Anne Arundel responded with a three-run third inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Griffin Klein and a two-run double off the bat of Camden Hodges, giving them a 4-1 lead.
But CCBC Essex battled back, tying the game in the fifth. Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL / Manatee) came through with a clutch RBI single to even the score at 4-4.
Freshman Casey Parsons (Salisbury, MD / Parkside) got the start for Essex and pitched effectively despite the loss. He went 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and five runs — only two of which were earned — while striking out four and walking three.
Offensively, Cook led the team with two RBIs and also stole two bases. Sophomore Jimmy Perez (Queens, NY / High School for Arts and Business) paced the Knights with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. In total, CCBC Essex stole four bases and stayed aggressive on the basepaths.
For Anne Arundel, Hodges drove in two runs, and Rylan Pallé went 2-for-3 from the nine spot. Ross stole two of their three bases, and Anne Arundel turned a double play defensively.
CCBC Essex drops to 23-24 on the season and 21-16 in Region 20 play.
The Knights looked to even the season series in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
