Knights Open Region 20 Play with Dominant 9–0 Win Over Prince George’s​

The CCBC Essex Knights opened Region 20 play in impressive fashion Thursday afternoon, defeating the Prince George's Community College Owls 9–0 on the road.

With the victory, Essex improves to 3–0 overall and 1–0 in Region 20 play to begin the 2026 spring season. The Knights will return to the field shortly for Game 2 of the series.


Agostini's Big Day Leads Offensive Surge

Freshman shortstop Manuel Agostini (Toa Baja, PR) delivered a standout performance, going 4-for-5 at the plate with three doubles and a single. Agostini's extra-base power helped fuel a breakout inning that put the game out of reach.

The Knights exploded for seven runs in the third inning. Key contributions included:

Earlier, Vargas doubled in the second inning to give Essex the early lead.

The Knights totaled 12 hits in the shutout victory. Vargas finished 2-for-3 with a team-high three RBIs. Nehomar Caldera (Memphis, TN, Freshman) and Bailey each recorded multiple hits as Essex consistently applied offensive pressure.


Mancuso, Amadio Combine for Shutout

On the mound, freshman right-hander Mekhi Mancuso (Baltimore, MD) earned the win, tossing five scoreless innings. Mancuso allowed just two hits while striking out six over 77 pitches, featuring an 86 MPH fastball as part of his three-pitch mix.

Sophomore left-hander Michael Amadio (Lusby, MD) provided two scoreless innings of relief to secure the shutout, allowing two hits and striking out one.

The Knights also turned a double play defensively to complete a well-rounded performance.


Region Play Underway

With Region 20 competition officially underway, CCBC Essex has positioned itself early as a contender. The Knights will look to carry momentum into Game 2 as they aim to remain unbeaten in conference play.
