Knights Roll Past SUNY Ulster, Improve to 8-2 Overall Ahead of Game Two

Entering the day at 7-2 overall and 5-1 in Region 20 play, CCBC Essex carried momentum into Friday's matchup against SUNY Ulster—and continued to build on it with a convincing 8-1 victory in Game 1 of the doubleheader.
 
With the win, the Knights improve to 8-2 overall, continuing their strong start to the season.
 
CCBC Essex struck early in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Michael Amadio (Lusby, MD) drove in the game's first run on a groundout. The Knights added another in the second inning as sophomore Laurin Guerra Guzman (Santo Domingo, DR) aggressively stole home to extend the lead to 2-0.
 
Offensively, the Knights were led by sophomore Diego Garcia (Bradenton, FL), who was a difficult out all afternoon. Garcia went 3-for-4, recording doubles in the first and sixth innings along with a single in the fourth.
 
He was joined by freshman Joey Rosa (Carolina, PR), who delivered a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs to anchor the middle of the lineup. Freshman Orville De Jesus (Killeen, TX) added two hits in three at-bats as Essex totaled nine hits as a team.
 
The Knights also applied pressure on the bases, swiping four stolen bases, including two from Guerra Guzman.
 
On the mound, sophomore Drew Rommel (Fallston, MD) set the tone with four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two. The bullpen trio of freshman Ethan Mosteller (Harrisburg, PA)freshman Anthony Villar (Philadelphia, PA), and freshman Ezekiel Rivas (Gaithersburg, MD) combined to shut down SUNY Ulster the rest of the way.
 
Defensively, Essex was flawless, committing no errors, with Rosa leading the way with four chances in the field.
 
SUNY Ulster was paced by Bueno, who collected two hits, but could not generate consistent offense against the Knights' pitching staff.
 
With Game 1 secured, CCBC Essex will look to complete the sweep as Game 2 of the doubleheader is set to begin in 30 minutes at home. The Knights aim to keep their momentum rolling and continue their strong play in both overall and conference competition.
