CCBC Essex Falls to Monroe in Opener at Harford Round Robin

CCBC Essex dropped the opening game of the Harford round-robin on Saturday, falling to Monroe University, 19-5, in a non-conference matchup. The loss moved the Knights to 12-4 overall on the season.
 
The Knights struck first in the second inning when Orville De Jesus (Fr., Killeen, TX) executed a perfect safety squeeze, giving CCBC Essex an early 1-0 lead.
 
Monroe answered in the third inning, scoring five runs to take control of the game. The Mustangs then broke things open in the fourth, erupting for 12 runs on nine hits to extend their lead.
 
Despite the deficit, CCBC Essex continued to compete offensively.
 
In the fifth inning, Adrian Camilo (So., Bronx, NY) launched a solo home run to center field, and Logan Eisemann (Fr., Bishopville, MD) added an RBI single. Eisemann led the Knights offensively with a perfect 3-for-3 performance and 2 RBI from the nine spot in the lineup.
 
Andy Martínez Rivera (Fr., Vega Alta, PR) also contributed with two hits as CCBC Essex totaled nine hits in the game.
 
On the mound, Drew Rommel (So., Fallston, MD) took the loss, working three innings and allowing six runs (two earned).
 
Monroe finished with 19 hits, led by Nieves (4-for-5), while Garcia and Francisco each drove in four runs.
