CCBC Essex bounced back in a big way on Tuesday, snapping a four-game losing streak with a dominant 10-0 mercy-rule victory over Frederick CC at "The Kingdom." With the win, the Knights improve to 13-6 overall and 8-1 in Region 20 play.
Frederick CC entered the matchup as one of the top teams in the country—preseason nationally ranked in multiple polls and ranked #3 in the JBB poll at game time—making the result a statement win for Essex.
Connor Bailey (3B, Soph., Parkside HS – Salisbury, MD) led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 at the plate. He got the Knights on the board in the first inning with a two-run single, added another hit in the fifth, and delivered the final blow with a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning to walk it off in mercy-rule fashion.
On the mound, Mekhi Mancuso (RHP, Soph., Baltimore, MD) was dominant from start to finish, striking out 10 batters over six shutout innings. He allowed just three hits and worked around two walks in a commanding performance. Mancuso now leads Region 20 in both ERA and strikeouts, continuing to anchor the Knights' pitching staff.
CCBC Essex wasted no time taking control of the game. The Knights plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by Bailey's RBI single. They extended the lead in the second inning with RBI doubles from Diego Garcia (RHP/OF, Fr., Bradenton, FL / Manatee) and Joey Rosa (INF, Fr., Carolina, PR) to make it 4-0.
The Knights broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to push the lead to 9-0. Laurin Guerra Guzman (INF/OF, Fr., Santo Domingo, DR) provided the big swing with a three-run home run to right field, while Manuel Agostini (SS, Fr., Toa Baja, PR) added an RBI after drawing a bases-loaded walk.
Bailey's sixth-inning home run sealed the victory and ended the game early via the mercy rule.
CCBC Essex totaled 10 hits in the win. Guerra Guzman drove in a team-high three runs, while Rosa added two hits. The Knights also showed strong discipline at the plate, drawing seven walks, with Agostini and Garcia each picking up two. On the bases, Garcia swiped two bags as Essex totaled four stolen bases.
The Knights' complete performance—strong pitching, timely hitting, and aggressive baserunning—marks a key bounce-back win against one of the nation's top-ranked programs and keeps Essex firmly near the top of the Region 20 standings.
