Knights Complete Perfect Road Trip: CCBC Essex Sweeps Westmoreland, Moves to 15-1 in Region

April 7, 2026 — Westmoreland County Community College

CCBC Essex capped off a dominant western Pennsylvania trip in style, defeating Westmoreland 5-1 in Game 2 to complete the sweep and finish the trip a perfect 4-0. The Knights now sit at 15-1 in Region 20, continuing to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the conference.

Essex struck first in the second inning with timely execution. Orville De Jesus (Fr., Killeen, TX) delivered an RBI single to left, and Yahil Diaz (Fr., Carolina, PR) added to the lead with an RBI, giving the Knights an early advantage they would not relinquish.

On the mound, Logan Castro (So., Brantford, ON) was in command from the start. The right-hander tossed five shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out two and walking two across 72 pitches.

Kyle Rineman (Fr., Middle River, MD) came on in relief to close things out and preserve the win, continuing the Knights' strong pitching effort.

Offensively, Essex continued to get contributions throughout the lineup:
The Knights were sharp defensively all game, and the only run allowed came on the final play of the day—an RBI single where Essex cut down a runner at third to end the game.

With the sweep, CCBC Essex finishes its western Pennsylvania trip undefeated at 4-0 and carries serious momentum back east. Now sitting at 15-1 in Region 20, the Knights have separated themselves among the conference's top teams.

Essex now turns its focus to Thursday's matchup against CCBC Catonsville, the only team to hand the Knights a region loss this season, setting up a key opportunity for redemption.
