Knights Rally Past College of Southern Maryland, One Win Away from Final Four Berth

May 4, 2026 — Rosedale, MD

CCBC Essex stormed back in a high-scoring battle to defeat the College of Southern Maryland 14-8 on Monday at the Kingdom, putting themselves just one win away from clinching a Final Four berth and securing the No. 2 seed in Region 20.

The Knights now turn right back around — first pitch in 30 minutes — with everything on the line.

CCBC Essex showed resilience early, overcoming a 5-0 deficit after the Hawks struck in the first and added to their lead in the second behind extra-base hits from Gomez, Evans, and a home run by McReynolds.

The game flipped in the bottom of the fourth when the Knights exploded for eight runs on just two hits, taking an 8-5 lead. The big moment came on a sacrifice fly by Diego Garcia (Fr., Bradenton, FL) that plated two runs and ignited the rally.
Essex continued to apply pressure in the sixth, adding six more runs. Key contributions included:
  • Casey Parsons (So., Salisbury, MD) drawing a bases-loaded walk
  • Guerra Guzman (So.) ripping a two-run double
  • Gabriel Vargas (Fr., Cidra, PR) drawing an RBI walk
  • Martínez Rivera adding a sacrifice fly
  • Garcia executing a squeeze bunt for another run
On the mound, Rommel earned the win in relief, settling things down after a tough start and keeping the Hawks off balance over 3.2 innings. Amadio got the start, while Parsons also contributed out of the bullpen.

Offensively, Parsons led the way with three RBIs, while Guerra Guzman paced the Knights with two hits. Manuel Agostini (So.) sparked the offense with four walks, as Essex showed strong discipline at the plate with 11 total walks.

The Hawks collected 11 hits, led by McReynolds (4 RBI) and Brunnemer (3 hits), but couldn't hold off the Knights' relentless offense.
