Knights invade the Cardinals nest
Written by: Drew Bellinger
Essex, Md — Knights remain unbeaten. After 11 games, and 11 wins, the Knights remain undefeated. So far, they have completely dominated the majority of their schedule. Last night's 118-46 win over the friends at CCBC Catonsville was no exception to that. With an average win margin of 37.3 points over the last few weeks, the Knights have to feel pretty good as they continue to move on with the season.
In what was really a complete team win, the Knights held their 7th opponent to less than 60pts, all while putting on a shooting clinic.
Sophomore guard Gigi Gamble opened up the scoring by coming up with a steal and putting away an easy layup making it 2-0 Knights…
And then, on what was already a rainy night in Catonsville, Gamble made it pour from three-point range. In a 17-0 run, Gamble made five consecutive three point shots, with a two-point jumper in the mix from Sophomore guard Paige Smith. This gave the Knights some serious cushion moving forward as the Cardinals had no answer.
Gamble would finish 11-for-16 on field goals, 7-for-9 from three, with two steals, and scoring 29 points in the game. An absolutely incredible performance as the Knights would enter halftime with a 69-21 lead.
Another Knight who had a career performance was Freshman forward Adela Cecunjanin. In her 23 point game, Cecunjanin shot 9-for-12 from the field, 2-for-3 from three, with 10 rebounds. Her first collegiate double-double.
Defensively they were lights out. Many ill-advised shots from the Cardinals were forced by the Knights defense.
The team played a very physical, and technical game. Essex ultimately got two Cardinals to foul out. They distributed the ball well and fed the hot hands in their win over Catonsville.
Having talented depth played a large role in yesterdays win also. They accounted for 57 points, more than the Cardinals total.
With players such as Freshman and Sophomore guards Reghan Robinson (15pts), and Cierra McGinlay (13pts) continuing to make an impact, the Knights are in a good spot heading into this weekend.
On Friday, the Knights will welcome the Harcum Bears to Essex for a 7:00pm home game. Then, the mixer beginning this weekend featuring teams such as Harcum College, Union College, Bryant & Stratton College, and Prince George's Community College.
