Justin Cook Drives In 4 To Lead CCBC Essex Past Allegany College, Start the Region 20 Doubleheader with a Win

Rosedale, MD – Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL / Manatee) drove in four runs on two hits to lead CCBC Essex past Allegany College 11-4 on Thursday at CCBC Essex. Cook singled in the second inning, scoring two runs, and hit a home run to left field in the sixth inning, scoring two.

CCBC Essex got on the board in the first inning after an error scored two runs.

CCBC Essex extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Sophomore Jimmy Perez (Queens, NY / High School for Arts and Business) and Cook.

CCBC Essex scored one run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run to center field by Sophomore William Hartman (Reisterstown, MD / Franklin).

CCBC Essex added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on three hits. Freshman Lorenzo Rodriguez-Pozo (Orlando, FL / Lake Nona) doubled on a hit-and-run, scoring two runs, and Cook homered (3) to left field, scoring two runs.

Sophomore Mitchell Bayles (Richmond, VA / Glen Allen), a Virginia Wesleyan transfer, (2-1) opened the game for CCBC Essex. The hurler surrendered two hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking two. Serb stepped on the bump first for Allegany College. The pitcher gave up four hits and six runs (four earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking four. Freshman Diego Garcia (Bradenton, FL / Manatee) appeared in relief for CCBC Essex.

CCBC Essex accumulated nine hits in the game. Cook, Hartman, and Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY / Christ the King) each collected two hits for CCBC Essex. Rodriguez-Pozo stole two bases. CCBC Essex ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. CCBC Essex played perfect in the field.

Pittman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Allegany College in hits. Anotonelli, Psoras, and Valentin each drove in one run for Allegany College.

CCBC Essex will face Allegany College in the nightcap of the doubleheader in 30 minutes. The Knights are now 13-12 on the year and 9-8 in Region 20.
