Knights Drop High-Scoring Opener at Delaware Tech

April 15, 2026 – Georgetown, DE

In a back-and-forth offensive battle, CCBC Essex came up short in Game 1 of a non-region doubleheader, falling 11-8 to Delaware Technical Community College on Wednesday.

Both teams showcased their offensive firepower, combining for 23 hits, with the Knights tallying 11 of their own. Despite multiple comeback efforts, CCBC Essex was unable to hold off a late push from Delaware Tech, which used a sixth-inning home run to pull away.

Delaware Tech struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to take an early lead. They added to the advantage in the second with extra-base hits, putting pressure on the Knights early.

CCBC Essex responded in a big way in the third inning, erupting for five runs on five hits to take control of the game. Joey Rosa (Fr., Carolina, PR) delivered a key two-run single, while Nehomar Caldera (Fr., Memphis, TN) worked a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run. Yahil Diaz (Fr., Carolina, PR) followed with a two-run single, highlighting the Knights' ability to string together quality at-bats.

Delaware Tech answered back in the bottom half of the third, and the game remained tight throughout the middle innings. CCBC Essex showed resilience again in the sixth, tying the game at 8-8 after capitalizing on a wild pitch.

However, Delaware Tech regained control in the bottom of the inning with a go-ahead home run, creating separation the Knights could not overcome late.

On the mound, Logan Castro (Fr., Brantford, ON) got the start for CCBC Essex, allowing seven runs (five earned) over two innings.

Delaware Tech starter Hatch also worked two innings, surrendering five runs.

Offensively, the Knights were led by a balanced attack. Rosa, Laurin Guerra Guzman (So., Santo Domingo, DR), Diaz, and Andy Martínez Rivera (Fr., Vega Alta, PR) each recorded two hits. Diaz paced the team with two RBIs.

CCBC Essex also applied pressure on the bases, stealing six bases and turning a double play defensively.
