Knights Drop Game 2 at Delaware Tech, Set to Return Home Monday

CCBC Essex wrapped up a long road trip on Wednesday with a 7-3 loss to Delaware Technical Community College in Game 2 of a non-region doubleheader.
 
With the result, the Knights move to 25-9 overall on the season.
 
Despite being outhit just 5-4, CCBC Essex was unable to overcome an early deficit, as Delaware Tech capitalized on key opportunities and controlled the pace of the game.
 
CCBC Essex struck first in the second inning when Marvin Rodriguez (Fr., Bronx, NY) grounded out to bring home a run and give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
 
Delaware Tech responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning, putting together the decisive frame of the game. Pagan delivered a bases-clearing triple, and Austin followed with an RBI single, helping Delaware Tech take a 4-1 advantage.
 
The Knights continued to battle offensively, with Gabriel Vargas (So., Cidra, PR)Joey Rosa (Fr., Carolina, PR)Yahil Diaz (Fr., Carolina, PR)Jacob Severino (Fr., Queens, NY), and Logan Eisemann (Fr., Bishopville, MD) each recording a hit. Vargas, Rodriguez, and Diaz each drove in a run.
 
On the bases, Yariel Hernandez (Fr., Moca, PR) added pressure with two stolen bases, while the Knights totaled three steals on the day.
 
Defensively, CCBC Essex remained sharp, turning a double play and committing no errors. Michael Amadio (So., Lusby, MD) led the team with eight defensive chances.
 
Steven Gonzalez Rodriguez (Fr., Cidra, PR) took the loss on the mound, working 1.2 innings while allowing four runs. Delaware Tech starter Hitchens went the distance, allowing three runs (one earned) over seven innings to earn the win.
